It's not always about being the best.

It's Not Always About Being the Best.

Hello all.  Just sharing some thoughts I have been having lately.  When learning or playing music, not everyone has to be the best; especially when playing in a group.  Usually whoever is first chair or has the solo gets the most attention, but are they really much more important than those who have supporting roles?  After all, without those playing the supporting harmonies; music would be rather drab and boring to listen to.  It is the supporting harmonies that make the music sound rich, interesting, and pleasing to the ears.  Although, without the lead melody (solo, lead chair etc), the listener would have nothing to really grab on to..  If you were to play your favorite song without a melody, it would just sound like a bunch of chords and wouldn't be nearly as memorable.  So, in conclusion.  Whether you are the lead role or the supporting role in anything, you are equally important to the bigger picture.
